Hello! If you are here, you must care about Montclair Public Schools. We do too. We moved to support a diverse and integrated school system. We wanted to be part of a community that buses kids to schools outside of their neighborhood so that every student will have the privilege of growing up with friends who are both similar and different from them.

Our schools are exceptional, but they face an existential crisis. Because their funding comes almost exclusively from taxes (over 90%), and we have a 2% cap on how much the tax levy can increase, we continuously lose teachers and cut some of our most special programs. In addition, although we are a socioeconomically diverse community, we are considered a wealthy district and receive a negligible amount of state aid and limited federal aid. And we have some grants too. However, we cannot expect these non-tax revenue sources to cover more than about 10% of the school budget in any given year. This status quo is not sustainable!
